Faculty of Mathematics

Faculty carries out multilevel training for the majors "Mathematics" and "Applied mathematics and computer science": 1 step: four years - with reception of the bachelor's degree of mathematics; 2 step: one year - with reception of the diploma of the expert or two years - with reception of the diploma of the master.

The major 510100 "Mathematics" has specializations: geometry and topology; the mathematical analysis, theory of numbers, theory of probabilities and mathematical statistics, information technologies in education.

Specializations of the major 510200 "Applied mathematics and computer science" are the following: maths and software for computers, mathematical modelling, mathematical methods in economics.

Preparation is accomplished in mathematics, applied mathematics and programming with orientation to pedagogical, research and industrial activity. Students receive knowledge on a wide spectrum of trends of modern mathematics: numerical methods, research of operations, methods of optimization, statistical modelling, programming, etc.

Students majoring in "Applied mathematics and computer science" in addition are study programming languages, architecture of the computer and networks, methods of development of system- and software.

Upon completing four-year training the student becomes the holder of bachelor’s degree, and under the personal application can continue training at the faculty with reception of qualification of the diplomaed expert (on specialities 010100 "Mathematics" and 071900 "Information systems") or to take part in the competition on two-year-old training in the magistracy on the appropriate trends 510100 and 510200.

Graduates of the trend and of the speciality "Mathematics" can work as teachers of mathematics and computer science at schools, technical schools and high schools, programmers and in research institutions.

Graduates of the speciality "Applied mathematics and computer science" are experts in mathematical modelling and the analysis of processes of planning and management, they can work as programmers and system analysts.

Except for traditional courses of mathematics and computer science, "Information systems and technologies" curriculum includes physics and system engineering, theory of information systems, system analysis, problems of management of technological and organizational processes. Graduates can develop and maintain hardware and software complexes, work as programmers, information system and network managers.

The faculty members provide an optimum combination of deep mathematical preparation forming strong skills for the decision of applied problems, with intensive theoretical and practical work in the field of modern mathematics and information technologies.
