The Chair of Philosophy is one of the common chairs of the university. Teaching of the basic course on philosophy is conducted on all the 13 faculties of the university, including Kola (Apatity, Murmansk area), Priladozhsky (Sortavala), Kostomuksha, Byelomorsk branches of PetrSU.

Experts of the Chair carry out the entire cycle of preparation within the course of "Philosophy" (entrance examinations, lectures, seminars and consultations, comprehensive examinations for the Candidate's degree) for post-graduate students and applicants for scientific degree of all majors of PetrSU and Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Science. Except for the obligatory philosophy course, teachers of the Chair teach special courses on philosophy of religion, philosophical anthropology, philosophy of history, Russian philosophy, ethics, communications in culture.

The Chair of Philosophy actively cooperates with various divisions of the Faculty of Philosophy of St.-Petersburg State University and with the Faculty of Human Philosophy of the A.Herzen Russian State Pedagogical University (St.-Petersburg) in training post-graduate students and persons working for Doctor's degree of the chair at preparation and defence of their theses, in publication of collections of scientific articles and carrying out of various scientific forums. At the same time the chair supports cooperation with various universities and research centres of the Russian Academy of Science of Moscow, St.-Petersburg, Nizhni Novgorod, Arkhangelsk, Murmansk, Rostov-on-Don, Kaliningrad, Vladivostok, Pskov, Great Novgorod, Ufa.

The Chair would appreciate all kinds of offers on various forms of co-operation.
