PetrSU Launched a Social Project “People for People”
Volunteers of the “Overcoming” are supported by the international program “Bridge It!” that facilitates emergent entrepreneurs from Russia, Finland and the Baltic countries, who are interested in civic initiatives. Projects management courses offered by the program will help the volunteers to successfully implement their project.
Project organizers, the students of Petrozavodsk State University, challenge the participants to leave their comfort zone by taking part in four training programs. Once they find themselves in an unusual situation the young people will be able to look at themselves and the world from different perspective.
The participants of the first training program “Inside Out World” were offered a “tour” around their home city of Petrozavodsk in complete darkness. In unlit room they followed the route from the railway station to the Student Boulevard, crossed the streets by the traffic lights signals, and enjoyed the sounds of the fountain.
The “tour” ended in a café where everyone could choose and order drinks and desserts relying only on their sense of taste.
The participants found their way around in the world without light with the help of a guide Mikhail, the 5th year student of the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology who studies defectology. Mikhail is a blind student. Under the project he promotes creating accessible environment for physically challenged students in Petrozavodsk State University.
