Roundtable discussion “Interaction between university and employers as the prerequisite to the high-quality education of graduates” convened the representatives of universities and business to discuss practices of interaction between universities and employers of the regions, creation of a roadmap for cooperation between Flagship Universities and principal enterprises in the regions.

Marianna Alekseevna Belinskaia, the coordinator of the projects in the fields of technologies and education of the Institute for advanced studies and human resources management in the name of Eugene Shiffers, believes that today projects should unite science, education, and industry, solve pressing issues of a region and country, and as a result bring about shifts in the paradigm.

“We would like to share the most of the experience we have amassed, show how this is what can be developed at your universities and in your regions. Ideally, everyone should leave with their own “road map” and understanding of the formats that can be implemented in the regions,” said Marianna Belinskaia and introduced the participants to the trends in the global economics and education.

All the participants of the seminar could try their hands at project activities. They were divided into teams; each solved a pressing industry-specific problem of the region. Moderators coordinated the groups, asked inducing questions and recorded innovative solutions.

Liudmila Nikolaevna Virkevich, project manager of Shiffers Institute:

“Our team looked into the structure of tourism industry in Karelia, its profile, what types of tourism are developed, what are the difficulties. Based on the opinions of the participating experts we pinpointed the problem areas and started thinking over a project solution that could help to eliminate these problems. We were looking for a solution that united technological, social and economic components.”

Valentina Mikhailovna Kirilina, Director of the Institute of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism of PetrSU:

“Petrozavodsk State University is the main educational and scientific center in the region, the Flagship University of the Republic of Karelia. It’s educational and research process should be integrated into the business. It is the business that should be the principal contractor. To this end, the university should offer novel solutions to the problems, which the business cannot solve by itself. This is the contact, the possibility of integrating university in the structure of the region and for the development of business inside the university. We tried to show this during teamwork. Of course, it was merely a business game, while in reality determined project activities should result in close and mutually beneficial cooperation between education and business.”
