PetrSU Teachers Developed a Program for studying the English Language for Gifted Children
The winners of the regional stage of the All-Russian contest of additional general educational programs for gifted children and talented youth were awarded diplomas at the official ceremony.
One of the winners of the contest is the Associate Professor of the Department of the English Language of the Institute of Foreign Languages of Petrozavodsk State University Svetlana Guseva. Svetlana was the co-author of the program “Developing with the English Language” implemented at the premises of the Children’s Culture and Recreation Center “Britanika” (Petrozavodsk). The program won in the category “Humanitarian Mind” and was highly rated by the expert committee.
The program corresponds to the basic principles of the Federal State Education Standards of pre-school education; it is inclusive and focuses on creative, social and teaching specialties. The developers of the programs considered such fields of knowledge as engineering, natural sciences, sports and physical education. The outstanding feature of the program is that all classes (whatever specialty) are held in the English language, which gives students an opportunity to develop their linguistic skills. Currently, 36 children study in this program.
The project was implemented in the framework of the strategic development project “Pedagogical Innovation Park “Education 5.0” as a tool for training personnel, establishing practices for securing young specialists for the region and developing system of lifelong education”, section “Modernization of Educational Activities”.
