PetrSU Hosted Briefing on the Results of the Karelian Delegation’s Visit to China
Petrozavodsk State University held a video conference on the results of the visit of the delegation of the Republic of Karelia to Fujian Province of China.
The Representative Office of Karelia in Moscow took part in the briefing by video call. The results of the visit were presented by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Karelia to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Timofeev, Minister of Culture Aleksey Lesonen, Vice-Rector for International Affairs of PetrSU Marina Gvozdeva and other members of the delegation.
Marina Stanislavovna thanked the colleagues for this unique opportunity to meet potential partners of Petrozavodsk State University – the leading universities of Fujian Province: Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University and the University of Fuzhou.
“We consider Fujian University to be our strategic partner under the Flagship University Development Program. Among our common areas of interest are technological solutions for the development of agriculture and fish farming, development and integration of new products of healthy eating etc. At the meeting, we presented our universities, compared the standings in rankings, tasks we solve, and defined areas of common interest.
The meeting resulted in an agreement to sign a Memorandum of Understanding at the time of the visit of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University’s administration to Karelia in the framework of the Fujian Province Week in August,” said the Vice-Rector.
PetrSU signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Fuzhou on November 1 during the visit of the Rector of Petrozavodsk University Anatoly Voronin. Marina Gvozdeva said, “With the University of Fuzhou we have engaged in a specific discussion of common activities, discussed forms of cooperation to be held this year.
The first step will be a summer school at the premises of PetrSU for Chinese students. Now we consider the interests of potential participants. Probably these will be the students of international relations, political studies etc. For this specific school, we will prepare lectures in the English language and take into account the interests of the participants, organize Russian language classes, courses on the introduction to the culture of Russia and the Karelian land.”
In the nearest future, the universities will exchange students for the period of one term or an academic year. Petrozavodsk University is ready to host Chinese students. PetrSU has the necessary infrastructure, specialists and modern educational programs.”
Marina Gvozdeva also noted that currently none of the partner universities in China has programs in the Russian language or Russian language courses. Petrozavodsk University too does not have programs in the Chinese language. Development of these courses will be under discussion as well. “In the long view of fruitful cooperation between Fujian Province and the Republic of Karelia, we need to train our own specialists who will be actively involved in the eventful intercultural cooperation,” summed up Marina Stanislavovna Gvozdeva.
On January 21-26 2018, members of the official delegation of the Republic of Karelia headed by the Deputy Head of the Republic of Karelia, Representative of the Republic of Karelia to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Timofeev have been on a work visit to China, visited enterprises and organizations of Fujian Province and held a series of business meetings.
