The Institute of Physics and Technology of PetrSU is the Talent Pool of Karelia
The Institute has always been the unique talent pool of physicists and engineers able to solve practical problems by drawing on fundamental knowledge.
The admission to the Institute of Physics and Technology has always been competitive. The year of 2017 was no exception. The competition for different Bachelor Degree programs varied from 2,4 to 5,9 people per place. The lowest passing score ranged from 129 to 163.
In 2017 the Institute admitted 158 first-year students. Altogether the Institute has 819 students (intra- and extramural).
The Institute offers eight Bachelor Degree programs: “Heat Power Engineering and Heating Engineering”, “Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering”, “Computer Science and Computer Engineering” (specialization “Automated Business Process and Finance Control”), and “Computer Science and Computer Engineering” (specialization “Automated Systems of Information Processing and Management”) will offer 25 state-funded places; “Electronics and Nanoelectronics” – 20 places; “Instrument Engineering” – 17 places; “Technical Physics” – 14 places; “Teacher Education” (specializations “Physics” and “Computer Science”) – 10 places. The Institute will also admit students to paid education; each program has 5 places for such students.
The programs “Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering” and “Computer Science and Computer Engineering” also admit students on paid extramural form of study.
This year all applicants should provide results of the State Exams in Mathematics (level intended for STEM majors) and the Russian language, as well as social studies (for “Teacher Education”), physics (for “Heat Power Engineering and Heating Engineering”, “Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering”, “Technical Physics”, and “Electronics and Nanoelectronics”), computer science and ICT (for “Computer Science and Computer Engineering”, “Instrument Engineering”).
Once they are admitted student immerse into engaging and eventful life. They study in modern classrooms and research laboratories, attend lectures read by the leading scientists of PetrSU and other Russian and foreign universities, work in laboratories fitted with the cutting-edge equipment.
The students of the Institute also have opportunities to get additional experience by taking part in exchange programs with foreign universities, as well as practice in the Nanocenter of PetrSU, the main center for development and creation of nanomaterials and smart devices in Karelia.
Besides that the students of the IPT can pursue their hobbies. Sports, dancing, tourism, debate club, Club of Funny and Inventive, the list goes on. Another asset of the Institute is its location in ecologically clean district of the city. The campus of the Institute has a swimming pool, sports ground and gym.
The IPT students are introduced to their future profession during their study, on-the-job and predegree practices, which take place at industrial enterprises (“Petrozavodskmach”, “GS Nanotech”), public utility service providers (“Petrozavodsk Utilities”, “TGK-1”, “Karelenergo” etc.), at Kola nuclear plant, educational and research institutions (Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute, Institute of Geology of the Karelian Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences), in schools.
Our graduates have high-quality higher education in the area of electronics, power engineering, physics, computer science, instrument engineering, as well as teaching physics and computer science and are employed by industrial, energy and mining enterprises, telecommunication and utility companies, pursue careers in the fields of science, education and business.
Welcome to the Institute of Physics and Technology!
