The Institute of Philology of Petrozavodsk State University launched an initiative to host educational events aimed at increasing the culture of spoken and written speech among police officers in the capital of Karelia.

The importance of this work was discussed in the framework of the “Single Day of State and Legal Awareness” traditionally held at the Regional Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Petrozavodsk.

Anna Skoropadskaya, the Vice-Director of the Institute of Philology of Petrozavodsk State University, member of the Public Council of the Regional Office of the MIA in Petrozavodsk, made a presentation to the heads and employees of police units. She analyzed typical mistakes made in service documents. For instance, she “showed” the faults in logical links in a sentence, provided examples of misunderstanding lexical meanings, pleonasms (phrases that have a needless repetition of words that have similar meanings). The participants also discussed cases of wrong stressing.

“We will involve students of the Institute of Philology in these events, as it will be a good practice for them in mastering various teaching methods,” said Anna Skoropadskaya.
