The IFL Teachers at the Conference of the National Association of Teachers of English
Samara State University hosted the 24th annual research and practice conference of the National Association of Teachers of English under the title “Role of Foreign Language Teaching in Multicultural Environment”.
The aim of the conference is to promote life-long increase of quality of teaching foreign languages in Russia.
The program of the conference included plenary meetings, topical sections, roundtable discussions, poster presentations. The participants of the conference also visited book exhibition that presented the latest publications of Cambridge University Press, Pearson, Macmillan Education. The event convened experts from the leading national and foreign educational institutions: E.N. Solovova, L.A. Gorodetskaya, Virgina Simmons, Johanna Stirling, Carolyn Westbrook etc.
The main topics of the conference included internationalization in life-long education; ICT in foreign language teaching; testing and evaluation of foreign language competence; State Final Examinations 2020 – expectations and reality; early teaching in foreign language; development of critical thinking skills; inclusive education: theory and practice; distance teaching of foreign language; philology and literary studies; teaching Russian as a foreign language; content and language integrated learning (CLIL); professional image of modern teacher and foreign language teacher; English language for scientific and academic purposes.
The senior teacher of the Department of the Foreign Languages for Natural Sciences and Technologies of the Institute of Foreign Languages Elena Petrova took part in the conference. She presented her report “Communicative tasks for development of speaking skills in foreign language classes in non-linguistic university”. In her report Elena proposed several tasks for activation and development of monologue and dialogue skills of students. Moreover Elena Petrova took part in the poster presentation and represented the Territorial Professional Group of the NELTA named “Karelian English Language Teachers’ Association (KarELTA)”.
All participants of the conference were awarded certificates. The proceedings of the conference are planned to be published.
