English Language Skills Upgraded
The Employees of the Scientific Library received certificates of advanced training on the additional professional program “The English Language for Professional Communication”.
The aim of the skills upgrading program organized by the Faculty of Skill Upgrading and Professional Retraining is to improve foreign language skills among the employees in order to facilitate working with information in foreign languages, servicing international teachers and students of the university.
Marina Gvozdeva, the Vice-Rector for International Affairs, congratulated the librarians on this professional achievement. “The Library of the university is ever on the cutting edge and keeping abreast with all changes and trends of Petrozavodsk State University. Your doors are always open to guests of the university, students, teachers, and employees of the university and you get actively involved in the innovation processes. PetrSU team has to be ready to communicate with the international students of PetrSU, our foreign guests. I thank you for persistence, diligence, involvement in project initiatives of the educational institutes,” noted Marina Gvozdeva.
The classes were taught by Nadezhda Shablikova, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of the English Language of the Institute of Foreign Languages. She addressed her “pupils” in the English language: “I enjoyed working with you during these two semesters and I am looking forward to seeing you on the new program, which will just as interesting.”
The English language skill upgrading program was held within the project “DIREKT: Developing Trans-regional information literacy for lifelong learning and the knowledge economy” of the Erasmus+ program, implemented at Petrozavodsk State University. The aim of the project is to develop information literacy among students, teachers, and employees of a modern university and the citizens of the region in the whole.
With the support of European experts, the participants of the project develop educational modules that teach to search, process, assess and disseminate information, update existing modules in Academic Writing in the English Language. In May Nadezhda Shablikova held an open class in the English language for librarians in the presence of the European experts of the project. We have received a positive preliminary assessment of the joint work of the Institute of Foreign Languages, the Scientific Library and the Faculty of Skill Upgrading and Professional Retraining.
At Petrozavodsk State University, the DIREKT project is a partner project of the Flagship University Development Program. It is implemented jointly with the strategic projects “Provision of “Soft” Security, Development of Transboundariness and Good Neighborliness in the European North and the Arctic” and the events under the Human Resource Capacity Development.
