Creative Endeavors of PetrSU Students
The exhibition called “Hand Made” opened today at the Center of National Cultures and Folk Arts of the Republic of Karelia.
Ceramic vases and candlesticks, costumes collection, exclusive jewelry, textile, wooden, and paper bags, graphics are among the creative products of PetrSU students of the Department of Technology, Fine Arts and Design in 2017-2018.
The first part of the exhibition includes artworks made for the “Small Scale Architecture” course, ceramic vases and candlesticks.
The most popular and demanded direction in art is uniquely designed jewelry made in the Wire Wrap technique.
The costume collection “Youth of Aino” made by Ekaterina Osipova also features in the exhibition. The main inspiration was ancient Karelian female costume. The collection was designed under the guidance of teachers of the Department of Technology, Fine Arts and Design Irina Vlasova (curator of the exhibition), Elena Timofeeva and Natalia Ilyina.
Natalia Igrakova, curator of the exhibition from the Center of National Cultures and Folk Arts of the Republic of Karelia, highlighted that this is the first experience of cooperation with the Department in the sphere of exhibition management: “The exposition is small but for the authors, it is very important. The students present their creations and it means that their art will be evaluated by the audience. They also can find followers and admirers of their art.”
Natalia Igrakova expressed her interest in further cooperation with PetrSU.
Exhibition visitors can see the artworks of PetrSU students, as well as attend various workshops, where they can learn how to weave, make laces, sew, embroider and many other crafts.
The exhibition “Hand Mad” exhibition is the first part of the exhibition cycle called “Craft Invasion”. The goal of the project is to unite masters of Arts and Crafts of different ages and to show the variety of art directions.
The exhibition is open till October 14, 2018, on Malaya Slobodskaya street 12/Neglinskaya promenade 7.
