Tourism and Education: Research and Projects
Petrozavodsk State University, the Flagship University of Karelia, hosted the 4th All-Russian research and practice conference Tourism and Education: research and projects.
Experts in tourism, representatives of educational institutions, non-governmental organizations, students of PetrSU and other institutions convened to discuss the present and the future of tourism in Karelia and look for a way of its further successful development.
Vladimir Siunev, the Vice-Rector for Scientific Research, opened the conference and noted: “Karelia is a treasure trove for tourists. The new generation has to tackle an enormous task and find new routes, increase the popularity of the tourism industry of the Republic. Petrozavodsk State University is ready to help them in this. The Flagship University of the Republic of Karelia has organized a series of expeditions (historical, archeological, folklore) and in 2019 we plan to launch expeditions to the Belomorsky Region and Zaonezhje,” told the Vice-Rector.
The Director of the Institute of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism Valentina Kirilina, highlighted that any areas, including tourism, lacks growth without education and science.
The participants of the conference looked for these growth areas using various forms of a scientific event. The plenary meeting, sections “Historical and cultural and environmental capacities as the basis for tourism development”, “Project and educational activities in tourism”, “Social tourism as a factor of increasing the quality of life”, “Role of cooperation in the development of tourism in the region”, webinar “Prospects of tourism development in municipal districts of Karelia” allowed comprehensive analysis of the issues of tourism development, new tourism products and their promotion in the market, excursion services. Particularly, those present discussed requirements to a modern tourism manager and training volunteers for social tourism, cross-border cooperation with Finland, services for foreign tourists, practices of organizing tours for schoolchildren and people with health limitations, prospects for development of children tourism and diving tourism etc.
The proceedings of the conference will be published and indexed in the Russian Science Citation Index (in 2019).
The organizers of the conference were the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Karelia and Petrozavodsk State University.
