Philological New Year
On December 25 the Institute of Philology celebrated the New Year in a philological way. It has become a good tradition for the first-year students of the Institute to prepare performances that tell about the traditions of celebrating the New Year and Christmas in the countries languages of which are studied at the Institute.
The performances vary in form but are united by creativity. The must-have is the self-cooked traditional New Year or Christmas dish.
This time the event featured Swedish songs dedicated to Saint Lucia, Veps poems, staging of A Charismas Carol: in Prose by Charles Dickens in the English language, theatrical performance of Russian Christmas rites and Yule-songs. The celebration ended with group dance Thread the Needle accompanied by accordion, eating kalitkas, Swedish gingerbread cookies, and English cupcakes.
