Petrozavodsk Schoolchildren Wrote the Classical Languages Olympiad
Schoolchildren who study Latin tested their knowledge in the European Classical Languages Olympiad.
The European Association of Teachers of Classical Languages "Euroclassica" holds annual competitions in classical languages, in which school students from almost all European countries participate. It has already become a tradition for representatives of Petrozavodsk to participate in this Olympiad – in the Dorofey Muzalyov Gymnasium No. 30 Latin has been a part of the program for high school students almost for 20 years. The Latin course for school students was developed by Anna Skoropadskaya, the Associate Professor of the Department of Classical Philology, Russian Literature and Journalism. This course is focused on mastering elementary Latin grammar with the involvement of the Russian language and scientific terminology. According to the feedback of graduates who have mastered the course, the skills and knowledge acquired in Latin lessons have greatly helped them in the early stages of studying at the university.
The Euroclassics Olympiad not only allows students to test their knowledge but also shows the relevance and vitality of classical languages in the European educational area.
