PetrSU and Savonia University of Applied Sciences Formed an International Group of Students of Social Sciences and Animal Husbandry
In February, for the third time, PetrSU will welcome teachers from Savonia University of Applied Sciences. The visit will take place within the framework of the implementation of the “Multidisciplinary intensive course on green care possibilities for wellbeing and development in rural areas”.
This time, teachers will come with a group of Savonia UAS students enrolled in the following fields of study: Natural Resources, Sociology and Health Care.
During the work on the implementation of the intensive course, PetrSU and Savonia University of Applied Sciences formed an international group of students of social sciences and animal husbandry areas of study and teachers. For the time being, the students and teachers meet and communicate on a social network.
The teachers of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Fishery and Merchandising together with the Academic Mobility Department of PetrSU are making good progress towards the preparation and implementation of the Multidisciplinary intensive course. The intensive course provides for lectures, workshops; work in the Scientific Library and computer classes. To implement the workshops, it is planned to visit the facilities which are in line with the goals and objectives of this course of study, namely, farms, public organizations and municipal educational institutions that use elements of Green Care in their activities. The participants will learn from the experience of socio-therapeutic and pedagogical effect during the canis therapy (with a therapy dog) and hippotherapy in Karelia. To this end, it is planned to visit such facilities as the kennel of northern sled dogs “Skify Tour”, special boarding school No. 23, where a canis therapy session will be held with the participation of dog handlers with the dogs of the Canine Unit of the Karelian Customs. Also, it is scheduled to visit social facilities in the village Beryozovka: Rural Initiatives Development Centre, “Rural Navigator” Resource Centre; visit the “Kivachskiye Pozhni” eventful site with an excursion around the Home Farm, natural art objects; participation in a sports relay race and much more. Through learning about the activities of the farms of the Republic of Karelia, the international group will visit the Syamozersk cheese dairy of the Kyalin family, where they will see the careful and competent handling of nature, as well as the production of cheese following Italian recipes.
By results of attendance of lectures and workshops, students of international groups will present reports, make a comparative analysis of the implementation of Green Care in Finland and Karelia; and define the prospects for further collaboration, interaction and development of Green Care in Karelia.
