“Karelia is We”
Students of the Department of Baltic and Finnish Philology take an active part in online contest “Karelia is We” dedicated to the Mother Language Day.
The contest is organized by the Periodika Publishing House with the support of the Ministry of National and Regional Policy of the Republic of Karelia.
The online trivia is held with the aim to increase the knowledge of the Karelian, Veps, and Finnish languages, ethnocultural competence of the citizens of the Republic of Karelia, promote ethnocultural development and stimulate interest in the language, traditional culture of Karelians, Veps, and Finns, as well as broaden the range of use of the Karelian, Veps, and Finnish languages.
One of the objectives of the contest is to obtain non-biased information about the level of proficiency in the Karelian, Veps, and Finnish languages and national culture among the citizens of Karelia, as well as motivate people to study history, ethnography, and languages of indigenous Baltic and Finnish peoples of Karelia. The Internet facilitates interaction between the participants of the contest and attracts more participants to the event.
