PetrSU Opens a Classroom of Traktorodetal Grupp and John Deere
The Institute of Forestry, Mining and Construction Sciences of Petrozavodsk State University, the Flagship University of Karelia, opened a classroom of Traktorodetal Grupp and John Deere.
The room is designed for students who study on programs of wood harvesting and processing, engineering programs.
The class will host lectures and seminars, practical classes and career orientation events.
The official opening of the classroom gathered representatives of administration and employees of PetrSU, Traktorodetal Grupp, business community, motor transport secondary technical school, and forestry secondary technical school of Petrozavodsk.
The ribbon was snipped by the graduates of the Faculty of Forest Engineering (now the Institute of Forestry, Mining and Construction Sciences) the Vice-Rector for Social and Disciplinary Work of PetrSU Vasily Katarov and the regional director of Traktoordetal Grupp in Karelia Nikolai Gruzdev.
Nikolai Gruzdev noted that opening of the classroom is just the first step in long-term cooperation between the enterprise and the university.
“Traktorodetal is regularly working with educational institutions on the issues of training qualified employees for forest industries. This classroom is the seventh we have opened at an educational institution. There are classes in the Arkhangelsk and Vologda regions, Khanty-Mansiisk Autonomous Okrug. Petrozavodsk State University is the only educational institution of higher education in Karelia that trains specialists for these areas. Today we have a demand for qualified employees and we hope that the university can help us in this,” said Nikolai Gruzdev.
Vasily Katarov highlighted that the educational standards have a clause stipulating interaction with industrial partners, employers, leading companies.
“In this way, students will learn and practice useful skills. This will prepare them for practical on-the-job training. The experience gained by students at Traktorodetal becomes a guarantee that our graduates have modern, cutting-edge knowledge and will be demanded by forestry enterprises and related industries,” said the Vice-Rector.
The head of the classroom Oleg Galaktionov told about the plans:
“In the future, we will zone the room into lecture and practice areas. The former will host theoretical classes. The latter will fit simulators and computers with special software that allows imitating timber harvesting and work on a harvester.”
There are plans to install equipment of Traktorodetal. This according to Oleg Galaktionov will allow students to work directly with the hardware. “Upon graduation, they will be well trained both in theory and skills. This laboratory will promote balance between breadth of view and knowledge in the specific area.”
After the opening ceremony, the participants engaged in a roundtable discussion of networking between educational organizations of Karelia, as well as prospective areas for cooperation with Traktorodetal.
