International Seminar on Roads
Within the project of the “Karelia” Cross-Border Cooperation Program “Innovations, Research and Education for Roads and Transport as an engine for growing cross-border business cooperation” (IRERT) Petrozavodsk hosted a seminar featuring Karelian and Finnish representatives of road industry.
The seminar was organized by the Karelian Regional Institute of Continuing Professional Education of Petrozavodsk State University. Finland was represented by the directors and specialists of the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency (Helsinki) and the Regional Center for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment of Northern Savonia (Kuopio).
Among the attendants of the seminar were students of PetrSU and representatives of organizations of the Republic working in the road industry, altogether over 40 people.
Manager of the project Sergey Koshelev told about the project and current stage of its implementation. The Associate Professor of the Department of Construction Technology and Management of the Institute of Forestry, Mining and Construction Sciences Danila Rozhin presented preliminary results of an ongoing analysis of road network of the Republic of Karelia. Reports were also delivered by the Director of the Regional Center for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment of Northern Savonia Tommi Huttunen, the head of the Department of International Relations of the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency Jyri Mustonen and the coordinator of international projects of the Regional Center Raimo Kaikkonen. Their reports concerned the organization of road works, projects of cross-border cooperation EU-Russia-Finland, winter road maintenance in Finland.
The participants of the seminar took interest in the presented reports, asked a lot of questions and shared opinions.
The project “Innovations, Research and Education for Roads and Transport as an engine for growing cross-border business cooperation” (IRERT) KA1029 will continue until October 2019. It will involve studies of the analysis of road network, interrelation between road network and economics of the region, analysis of educational needs of specialists of the industry, with the view to developing modern and practice-oriented educational programs in the future.
