The NeoClassica Center of the Humanities Park of PetrSU welcomed Brazilian journalist and writer Astier Basilio who told about the literature of his country and the works of renowned novelist Jorge Amado.

The lecture stirred great interest and the classroom could barely fit all attendants. This comes as no surprise as starting from the 20th the literature of Latin America has won recognition from the world, while an opportunity to listen to a speaker talking about it in Petrozavodsk is a rare one. The report of Astier Basilio included multiple comments on the history of Brazil, cultural ties between Latin America and Russia and prompted a lot of questions among the captivated audience. The difficulties in speaking the Russian language that the lecturer has been studying for a year and a half were compensated for by the deep knowledge of the subject, commitment, and emotional presentation. The lecturer even sang a bit in the Portuguese language the original song that was used in the Soviet film adaptation of a novel by Jorge Amado.

After the lecture, the attendants could study the exhibition of books by Latin American writers and research on them, prepared by the employees of the Scientific Library of PetrSU.
