International School on Social Work at PetrSU

On April 14-18 PetrSU hosted traditional spring International Social Work School. The event for students and teachers was organized by Petrozavodsk State University in cooperation with Saimaa University of Applied Sciences (Lappeenranta, Finland).

On April 14-18 PetrSU hosted traditional spring International Social Work School. The event for students and teachers was organized by Petrozavodsk State University in cooperation with Saimaa University of Applied Sciences (Lappeenranta, Finland).

The school opened on April 15 with the participation of the Vice-Rector for International Affairs of PetrSU Marina Gvozdeva. In her opening speech, she welcomed the participants of the school and expressed hope that the research done within the school will become the basis for further large-scale cooperation between universities, including a joint educational program.

The participants of the school attended lectures and report presentations of students and teachers of Petrozavodsk State University and their Finnish colleagues. Namely, reports were presented by the acting Head of the Department of Social Studies and Social Work, Associate Professor, Candidate of Social Sciences Yulia Petrovskaya and Associate Professor, Candidate of Political Sciences Olga Kulakovskaya, presentations were made by students of the Department of Social Studies and Social Work of PetrSU. Moreover, the program included visits to the Humanities Innovation Park of PetrSU and social institutions of Petrozavodsk with a view to learning about the activities of social work centers in our city. During the tours and events, the Finnish colleagues were accompanied by the employees of the Department of International Projects and Programs of PetrSU who coordinate activities of training platforms. Students of the Institute of History, Political and Social Sciences Anna Veldyukhova, Evgeny Nikolaev and Yana Stepanova too joined the interdisciplinary team of the school and gained experience of arranging events and interpretation.   

At the final discussion, the teachers and employees of Petrozavodsk State University discussed with the colleagues from Finland main forms and areas for future cooperation. In the foreseeable future, the ideas may be implemented in the forms of joint educational programs and academic mobility programs organized for teachers and students of PetrSU and their counterparts at Saimaa University of Applied Sciences.
