Traineeship within Cooperation

08 May 2019
On April 29 till May 4 the senior teacher of the Department of the German and French Languages of the Institute of Foreign Languages and the Head of the French Resource Center of the Pedagogic Innopark Nadezhda Barymova underwent traineeship at the Free University of Brussels (ULB) in the framework of Erasmus+ Credit Mobility

The city of Brussels has the most international institutions after New York. The Higher Institute of Translation and Interpretation (ISTI), which since 2015 is a part of the Free University of Brussels, trains future translators and interpreters in nine languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, and Russian. Thanks to international recognition and 60 years of experience (ISTI was founded in 1958), the Institute has signed cooperation agreements with 110 universities in more than 30 countries. The Higher Insitute has long been cooperating with PetrSU. Belgian students who study the Russian language come to the Institute of Philology to master their proficiency in the language. This year the Institute of Foreign Languages joined the cooperation in outcoming academic mobility.

This traineeship took place within the joint project of the Free University of Brussels and the IFL of PetrSU implemented with the financial support of Erasmus+ Credit Mobility for 2018-2020.

The joint project is aimed to exchange experience in the area of teaching translators and interpreters and includes three stages of implementation: 1) introducing PetrSU teacher to teaching methods at ISTI; 2) visit of a Belgian teacher to PetrSU to pass the experience; 3) teaching three students for one semester at the Free University of Brussels. All this will allow modernizing the educational program “Linguistics. Translation and Translation Studies” and upgrading teacher training within the “French Language” program of the IFL.

During her visit, Nadezhda Barymova attended classes in translation and interpretation, literature, medical and economic translation, saw the technical equipment used in teaching simultaneous interpretation, took part in a discussion of intricacies of training future translators and interpreters. Besides that, at the “Russian Evening” Nadezhda delivered a presentation in which she told about the Republic of Karelia, the city of Petrozavodsk and PetrSU, the Flagship University of the region.
