Live and Work in Karelia!
Our colleagues published the main achievements of the republic over the past five years.
In 2023, Karelia entered the top 10 of the national rating for investment attractiveness for the first time, which is presented annually at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The compilers of the rating assessed the efforts of the regional authorities to create a comfortable environment for business: policy in the field of infrastructure creation, the degree of support for small and medium-sized businesses.
According to data for 2024, which became known this spring, the volume of investments in Karelia exceeded 103 billion rubles, which is 3.4 billion more than in 2023. At the same time, small businesses also showed steady growth. The volume of investments of small and medium-sized businesses reached a record level of 26.9 billion rubles.
In addition, the regional Ministry of Finance recently reported that the budget surplus of Karelia in 2024 amounted to 1.5 billion rubles. In difficult economic conditions, Karelia improved the situation with the receipt of revenues to the republican budget. The region's own revenues increased by 12.2%. Large enterprises of the real sector of the economy, as well as small and medium businesses, contributed to the formation of the budget. The volume of tax and non-tax revenues of the consolidated budgets of the republic's municipalities increased by more than 23%. In real terms, investments represent not only the expansion of existing enterprises, but also the opening of new production facilities. In particular, the authorities of the republic and the Moscow government signed the largest contract in the history of public procurement in modern Russia in 2024, according to which a new crushed stone plant appeared at a quarry in the Kondopozhsky District this year. According to experts' calculations, the enterprise should produce products worth 62 billion rubles in 10 years. They will also begin producing curbstones there, which will be used at construction sites in the capital.
In 2025, the first stage of the creation of the only digital shipyard in the country in Petrozavodsk, which was launched in 2019 on the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, will be completed. The main technological equipment was launched in the capital of the republic - a metal cleaning and painting line in the new block of hull shops of the digital shipyard. At the same time, equipment was also launched in other areas of production.
The project involves the introduction of digital technologies in ship construction, robotics and automation of production with an increase in the number of ships built per year from 3 to 10. After implementation, a full ship production cycle will be launched on a total area of 26 thousand square meters: from the design to the complete readiness of the vessel.
In 2025, a record number of medical facility construction projects were recorded in Karelia. Under the presidential national project "Long and Active Life", 17 new buildings will open in Karelia: 9 paramedic-obstetric stations and 8 medical outpatient clinics. In addition, the republic's authorities are currently adjusting the design documentation and the site for a new oncology center, and are also preparing to build a hospital complex in Lakhdenpokhya.
Back in 2022, the Karelia road fund reached a record volume and exceeded 10 billion rubles for the first time. At the same time, the main part of the fund, 7.3 billion rubles, was then Karelia's own revenue. And in the first quarter of 2025, 2.7 billion rubles were spent on the maintenance and repair of Karelia's roads. Compared to the same period last year, road costs increased by 1 billion rubles.
