PetrSU in the Top 50 of the National University Ranking – 2025
As part of the NUR ranking study, the activities of 389 universities in Russia were assessed. The rating included all the country's high-status universities: 29 national research universities, 10 federal universities, 33 flagship universities, 145 universities participating in the Priority 2030 program, and 22 non-state universities.
The universities' activities were assessed according to six parameters: "Brand", "Education", "Research", "Social Environment", "Cooperation", "Innovation / Entrepreneurship".
The top ten universities in the Northwestern Federal District include 7 universities from St. Petersburg, one university each from Kaliningrad and Arkhangelsk, as well as Petrozavodsk State University:
- Petersburg State University.
- ITMO University.
- Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.
- Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University.
- Empress Catherine II St. Petersburg Mining University.
- Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI" named after V.I. Ulyanov (Lenin).
- Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia.
- Petrozavodsk State University.
- Petersburg State University of Economics.
- Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov.
PetrSU is the flagship university of the Republic of Karelia. It ranks 4th in the overall ranking among flagship universities and 48-50th among all universities in Russia.
- According to the "Education" criterion, it ranks 3rd among flagship universities, 4th among universities in the Northwestern Federal District, and 21st in the overall ranking of Russian universities.
- According to the criterion "Innovation/Entrepreneurship" - 3rd place among the flagship universities, 6th place among the universities of the Northwestern Federal District and 46th place in the overall ranking of Russian universities.
- According to the criterion "Cooperation" - 7th place among the flagship universities, 9th place among the universities of the Northwestern Federal District and 47th place in the overall ranking of Russian universities.
The National University Ranking project has been implemented by the Interfax Group since 2010. Its main goal is to develop mechanisms and procedures for an independent system for assessing Russian universities and their educational programs, increasing the competitiveness of the Russian education system, scientific research and technological entrepreneurship, and developing federal and regional universities.
