Institute of Philology

The Institute of Philology is widely known for its research activities in the sphere of linguistic folklore studies, historical poetics, comparative studies, as well as the studies of ancient and Christian traditions in the Russian literature, works of Pushkin and Dostoevsky, comparative analysis of folklore and science fiction, children’s literature and Finnish literature. Students have a unique opportunity to learn the languages of indigenous people in Karelia – Vepsian, and Karelian. Numerous monographs and scientific works have been published since the establishment of the Institute by its staff and students.

Despite its classical origin, the Institute widely incorporates information technologies into the learning process. The Institute of Philology has an online laboratory, in which professional databases are being created.

The Institute’s alumni can work in various spheres of life – Russian language and literature teachers both at schools and universities, translators, tour guides, journalists, copywriters.
