PetrSU at the Anniversary Meeting of the Association of Finno-Ugric Universities

From November 23 to 25, Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University hosted events dedicated to the 15^th anniversary of the Association of Finno-Ugric Universities. The delegation of Petrozavodsk State University took part in the anniversary meeting and included the Vice-Rector for Scientific Research Vladimir Syunev and Associate Professor of the Department of Baltic-Finnish Philology Anastasia Kongoeva.

The main event was a round table on the topic “Modern Finno-Ugric Studies: current challenges and potential for development.”

During the meeting, those present discussed the issues of interaction between AFUU member universities, prospects for scientific and educational cooperation, training of personnel in the field of higher education, and the development of Finno-Ugric studies as an interdisciplinary science. As a result of the round table, the delegates developed a resolution that reflected the key issues in the development of modern Finno-Ugric science and education.

“The accepted resolution includes the issues of the development of student science and social project planning in the field of Finno-Ugric studies, the possibility of developing academic mobility between AFUU universities. But the main focus is still on science, and this is important. Teachers and students of the Institute of Philology, primarily the Department of Baltic-Finnish Philology, regularly take part in symposia and conferences of AFUU member universities, strengthening the position of their scientific school and involving an increasing number of students in research and project activities,

The program of anniversary events also included a meeting of the AFUU Youth Council. Representatives of the universities discussed ideas and plans for events for the next year, shared their work experience, and talked about the existing challenges associated with the study of national culture and languages. The practices of Petrozavodsk State University were presented by Anastasia Kongoeva.

Simultaneously with the meetings, Syktyvkar University hosted the national sports festival among students of Finno-Ugric universities. Participants competed in the national triple jump, throwing a tynzian (lasso) around a long pole used to drive a team of reindeer, and jumping over a sled.

The final event was the ceremonial meeting of the Association of Finno-Ugric Universities, at which the Rector of Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University Olga Sotnikova presented a report on “Experience and current issues in the activities of the Association of Finno-Ugric Peoples.” In addition, the Rector of the Komi Republican Academy of Public Service and Management Sergei Tkachev and the Head of the Finno-Ugric Cultural Center of the Russian Federation Tatyana Barakhova presented their reports. The ceremonial meeting of the Association ended with a concert of creative groups of Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University.
