The 31st Congress of the Eurasian Association of Trade Union Organizations of Universities (EAPOY)
On 13-15 September, PetrSU hosted the Congress. The Congress convened 51 delegates, 31 of them represent Russian universities: Moscow State University, Don State Technical University, Mari State University, Dagestan State University, Vitebsk State University, Mordovia State University, and others, as well as foreign delegates (Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia etc.).
Since 1987 the sessions of the leaders of trade unions have been hosted by 6 different countries. This is the 23rd time a university hosts the event.
The association’s members discuss social and labor issues and regularly monitor the level of salaries in the area of education. Over these 30 years, most universities have established fruitful relations.
The plenary meeting was opened by the President of the EAPOY Igor Kotlobovsky. He welcomed the participants on behalf of the President of the Eurasian Association, Rector of Moscow State University Victor Sadovnichiy.
PetrSU Rector Anatoly Voronin addressed the participants on behalf of the administration and employees of PetrSU.
“We consider all trade union organizations an essential factor in sustainable development and stability,” concluded Anatoly Voronin.
In his report “Petrozavodsk State University in Social Area” the Rector presented the university, the Flagship University of the Republic of Karelia, told about the activities of the trade union organizations of PetrSU, methods of solving social problems of students and workers, and also highlighted the necessity to continue this experience exchange between universities.
After the Rector’s speech, Igor Kotlobovsky noted:
“Every meeting at a university is a master-class of a kind for all of us. While listening to your report, I have realized that PetrSU is at the edge of innovation. I am glad that you have such well-developed relations of social partnership. Wish you good luck!”
The event was also dedicated to the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Trade Union movement in the Republic of Karelia, which currently unites 16 branch and 7 member organizations, which consist of 58 thousand employees.
