The Karelian Culture Days took place in the capital of the North from February 27 till March 2 in the framework of the celebration of 100 years of the Republic.

The culture of Karelia was presented by Karelian actors, artists, and masters, over 150 professional and amateurs from different regions of the Republic. The Toive Folk Music Ensemble of Petrozavodsk State University took an active part in the events. On March 1 the Ensemble performed at the International Ethic Festival “Kalevala Land 2019” in the “U Finlandskogo” concert hall, and on March 2 gave a concert in Saint Petersburg House of Nationalities.

Polina Monoilina, a student of the Institute of Ecology, Biology and Agricultural Technologies, member of the Ensemble, shared her impressions of the visit and the Karelian Culture Days:

“As many know the name of our ensemble “Toive” means “hope” in Finnish. First of all, this is hope for the preservation and promotion of the culture and traditions of indigenous peoples. We thank the organizers of the festival. The atmosphere at the concerts was warm and hospitable; it was a pleasure to perform to complete strangers who took interest in our art!”
