On March 18-22 under the Flagship University Development of PetrSU and the international project CBC KO1013 BRIDGE – Barents Region Initiative for Developing growth and Employability six Master Degree students of the Institute of Economics and Law of Petrozavodsk State University underwent practical training on solving business cases in Lapland University of Applied Sciences in the Finnish city of Tornio.
The BRIDGE project is a part of the CBC Kolarctic 2014-2020 and aims at broadening the cross-border interaction between small business, universities, and municipalities; developing innovative forms of youth entrepreneurship; assisting employment among university graduates.
Alongside PetrSU the BRIDGE project involves 4 partner universities: the Arctic University of Norway (Lead Partner), Lapland University of Applied Sciences (Finland), Murmansk Arctic State University and ITMO University (Saint Petersburg).
At the first stage of the project the host party, Lapland University of Applied Sciences, organized in Tornio a week-long internship for 57 partner-universities to solve 10 cases proposed by Finnish companies such as Oy Aurora Data and Systems Ltd., Oy BeSmart Consulting Ltd., Datadrivers Oy, Hovilompolo, Hulkoffgården AB, Town of Tornio, Tervolan Kurkiaura Oy, LAPPARI, PUU TERÄ J. HALONEN, Kemi Tourism Ltd./Experience365, SEADVENTURES.
The Finnish companies participating in the BRIDGE represented mainly the tourism sector of Finland, while their cases focused on marketing tools (storytelling, digital-marketing, SMM, new markets, etc.).
On behalf of the Institute of Economics and Law of PetrSU, the internship featured six Master Degree students of the programs Economics, and Economics and Finance: Anton Silantiev, Polina Golomydko, Lidia Yurchik, Vera Shikhalova, Dariana Novikova, and Aleksandr Saraev. The Associate Professor of the Department of Economic Theory and Management Oksana Prokhorova acted as a coach and the project manager.
The students were divided into 10 mixed international teams that in the course of a week met representatives of the Finnish companies, discussed ideas and their implementation, prepared an interim presentation with a roadmap for the tasks in hand.
The visit to Tornio was preceded by online meetings and teamwork of the participants of the BRIDGE via Trello, Slack, Skype, WhatsApp, etc., which will continue for 8 weeks more. The team will hold the final presentation of the results to their commissioners on May 20-21 2019 at a video conference.
“This form of cross-border cooperation between students and teachers broadens the range of the tools for good neighbourliness and “soft security” and promotes establishment and development of the cross-border interdisciplinary project platform on the solution of relevant systemic social and economic problems of the region within the implementation of the project “Soft Security”. The participation in the project allows the Master Degree students and the teachers of the Institute of Economics and Law to enhance their competitive capacity in the international labor market through developing communication and management skills in international cross-cultural environment,” said Marina Gvozdeva, the Vice-Rector for International Affairs of PetrSU, head of the strategic project “Soft Security”.
