Visit of Finnish Delegation

PetrSU welcomed the Finnish Working Group for Social Sciences under the Finnish-Russian Commission for Scientific and Technological Cooperation. The delegation included representatives of Finnish universities, research institutes, and ministries.

During the visit, the members of the delegations were introduced to Petrozavodsk State University.

The guests were taken on a tour around the university, introduced to the Humanities Innovation Park of PetrSU, the ethnographic collection of the Museum of History of PetrSU. The delegation also visited the Ethnohouse of PetrSU, a place created to promote the culture and language of the indigenous peoples of Karelia.

The parties discussed opportunities and prospects for Finnish-Russian cooperation in science and technology and stimulation of information sharing.

“This is my first visit to Petrozavodsk University and it was amazing to learn that it teaches the Veps, Karelian languages and preserves the national tradition of these peoples.”

The Finnish-Russian Commission for Scientific and Technological Cooperation was established 40 years ago to facilitate horizontal networks and foster cooperation between Finnish and Russian research institutes and researchers.

Over the years the group has visited Sochi, Vladivostok, Kazan where it has met with representatives of government agencies, research organizations, as well as the business community.
