Petrozavodsk University creates a unique intellectual atmosphere in our Republic, glorifies Karelia far beyond its borders. The scientific achievements of our students, teachers, and employees of the university are highly appreciated by Russian and world-famous experts and are widely used in education and the workplace.

Symbolically the anniversary of the university coincided with the 100th anniversary of the Republic. The educational process has not stopped even during the Great Patriotic War when the university had been evacuated. Many teachers and students went off to the front, heroically fighting on the battlefield.

PetrSU today is one of the best educational institutions in the country. It reflects both traditions and advanced technologies. The status of the flagship university stands proof to the work on the introduction of scientific innovations into the industry, medicine, and education, active participation in the life of the Republic, close interaction with the Karelian regions. The university opens modern spaces for teamwork, innovative parks, and has established a military training center.

The spirit of classical education makes the university special as it combines the exact sciences and the humanities. The Academic Choir, the Sampo Students' Tourist Club, the Toive folk music ensemble, the Programmers' Club, and the school of Sambo have become the brands of the university. New student associations develop, and the volunteer movement plays an important role.
