SLOVO International Agency Launched New Project – Mir Student Club
Mir is an association of PetrSU students with a goal of helping international students who come to study at Petrozavodsk University to adapt to the life in Russia and make new friends.
The leader of the club, Faina Ivashkina, the 2nd year student of the Institute of History, Social and Political Sciences of PetrSU, introduces herself and the club:
“I have been engaged in volunteer work for five years already. It all started with the Ovsyanka youth and children association in the city of Kondopoga. What haven’t we done… Flashmobs, city quests, workshops, conferences, field trips across Karelia, and so on. At the association I was the leader of the Mass Cultural Events section and the head of the Ovsyanka. Then I enrolled in Saint Petersburg university. It was great to live and study in the capital of the North, yet I missed the friendly volunteer environment. I’ve look hard but in vain. The statistics is right to claim that Karelia has one of the liveliest volunteer movements. A year later for this reason I reenrolled in PetrSU and discovered SLOVO International Agency. It was worth it! SLOVO helps foreigners feel at home in our country and demonstrates that meeting new cultures is cool. Here I was fortunate to communicate with students from other countries and make new friends, take part in the projects International Friendship Classes, Culinary Festival, and Dialogues of the Planet. Now I’ve taken up a new task to become the leader of a new project, Mir student club. I feel that it will be fun. As the leader of the club I wish that there will be comfort and friendliness at the club, foreigners will enjoy studying at PetrSU and wish to come back to Russia, volunteers will better themselves and overcome new challenges; students will find support and new friends.”
