PetrSU Students Share Impressions of Their Stay in Hungary

07 March 2025
Fourth-year students of the Institute of Foreign Languages Anastasia Ursu and Elizaveta Gravchenkova, studying in the field of "Teacher education. Education in the subject areas of "English language and French language", took part in the academic mobility program Stipendium Hungaricum during the winter semester of the 2024/25 academic year. Having collected all the documents and passed a serious selection stage, from September to December 2024 they became students of Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) in Budapest (Hungary), where they studied in the English and American studies program.

The studies at two universities, PetrSU and ELTE, took place in parallel. It was not easy, but our students managed to organize their work schedule in such a way as to manage to do everything on time and efficiently. They not only mastered the curriculum of the entire semester at the Hungarian university, but also successfully passed the winter session upon their return in January in PetrSU.

Speaking about the process of studying at the Hungarian University, they emphasize the fact that students make their own semester schedule a week before the beginning of the academic period. This is convenient, because everyone can choose the time of the course and the teacher that suits them. But an important aspect that must be taken into account is that for all 3 years of study in the bachelor's degree, you need to earn 180 credits - academic units (30 credits per semester). Attendance at seminars is mandatory, teachers strictly monitor the attendance of all students. This is one of the key factors in assigning a grade for the course, along with active participation in discussions, preparing homework and writing the final test. But the situation is different in lectures. The main thing in lecture courses is writing the final exam, to receive a grade for which you need to write a paper for a minimum number of points in order to receive a pass.

Since Anastasia and Elizaveta went to study for only 1 semester, learning Hungarian was optional. But finding themselves in an environment where people speak Hungarian and not everyone knows English, our students had to learn a few basic words and expressions.

“Despite the fact that it took a lot of time and effort to prepare for studying in Hungary, I am glad that I was able to take part in the Stipendium Hungaricum academic mobility program. I gained incredible life experience and new knowledge and found acquaintances and friends from different corners of our planet

- notes Anastasia Ursu.
