A New Study Program Opens at the Institute of Foreign Languages of PetrSU

The bachelor's degree program "Foreign-Language Media Space and Intercultural Communication" is opening at Petrozavodsk State University. Students will master two foreign languages at a level that allows them to work with authentic written and oral texts and, at the same time, learn to work with foreign-language media: freely read media texts, understand them by ear, analyze, summarize, generalize, and make selections of materials from foreign-language media on current topics.

Among the disciplines that students will study within the program are introduction to media communications, information technology and the media sphere, fundamentals of media studies, corpus technologies in expert activities, linguistic examination of texts of foreign-language media and media texts (content analysis of foreign-language media and media, sentiment analysis of foreign-language texts of the media and media, implementation of the principle of news value in foreign-language media (according to T.G. Dobrosklonskaya), typology of foreign-language media texts, media production, preparation of reviews of topics in foreign-language media, search for the necessary information in foreign-language media.

The curriculum contains modules aimed at studying two foreign languages and the culture of the countries of the studied languages, linguistic disciplines that allow for the examination of foreign-language media, translation disciplines.
