At the ceremonial meeting of the Academic Council of PetrSU dedicated to the university's 85th anniversary, a ceremony conferring the title "Honorary Doctor of Petrozavodsk State University" was held.

University Rector, Professor Anatoly Viktorovich Voronin, presented the robes and diplomas of Honorary Doctor of PetrSU to Nina Nikolaevna Nemova, Chief Researcher in the Laboratory of Ecological Biochemistry at the Institute of Biology of the Karelian Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation; Mikhail Leonidovich Goldenberg, Director of the National Museum of the Republic of Karelia, PhD in Pedagogical Sciences, and Honored Cultural Figure of the Republic of Karelia; and Nikolai Vladimirovich Fedorenko, one of the most experienced and successful fish farmers in the Republic of Karelia.

N.N. Nemova is a Professor, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of a Research Department at the Karelian Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Chief Researcher at the Laboratory of Ecological Biochemistry at the Institute of Biology at the Karelian Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

From 1999 to 2020, Nina Nikolaevna Nemova headed the Department of Molecular Biology, Biological, and Organic Chemistry at PetrSU. She was the driving force behind the introduction of new molecular biology methods into the curriculum, the introduction of molecular genetics disciplines into the curriculum, and the creation of a specialization in molecular biology for biology students in the Faculty of Ecology and Biology. It was during this period that N.N. Nemova contributed to the creation of the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics of Innate Immunity (Head: Professor A.N. Poltorak) and the Laboratory of Biologically Active Natural and Synthetic Organic Compounds (Head: Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor V.P. Andreev). Both laboratories became part of the Institute of High Biomedical Technologies (currently the Scientific and Educational Center for High Biomedical Technologies).

“Nina Nikolaevna is a renowned professor, the only Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Karelia. Nina Nikolaevna is not only a graduate of PetrSU, but also a long-time university professor and department head. Today, many of her students work at PetrSU, the Karelian Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and at organizations and enterprises throughout the republic and country. She is an amazing, wonderful person,"

-          said Anatoly Viktorovich, Rector of the University, congratulating Nina Nikolaevna.

“Almost my entire life has been connected with the university. I studied here, then taught at the university for almost 30 years, and headed the department. I am deeply grateful to our university, the university staff, and the department where I worked for their close collaboration. Thank you so much for recognizing my work,

-           thanked N.N. Nemova.

“Thank you so much! I am very pleased and proud to receive this honorary title. PetrSU is my alma mater: my entire family graduated from Petrozavodsk University. I am incredibly grateful to the university and my professors, who invested their hard work and soul in me! I congratulate the university on its anniversary and wish it continued prosperity,

-          said M.L. Goldenberg.

“Mikhail Leonidovich Goldenberg is the pride of our republic; he has contributed greatly to historical scholarship. Under his leadership, the National Museum of the Republic of Karelia is successfully developing. The museum collaborates closely with PetrSU, serving as a base for student internships, coursework, and theses,

-          noted Anatoly Voronin.

“Congratulations to the university on its anniversary! Thank you for the honor of conferring upon me the title of Honorary Doctor. I promise to pass on my 35 years of experience in aquaculture to my students. I will teach them what I know, and I will continue to develop aquaculture,

-          Nikolai Vladimirovich Fedorenko promised in response.

“Nikolai Vladimirovich Fedorenko was one of the first to start aquaculture in Karelia from scratch. He has traveled a difficult path, building, in the best sense of the word, the “Fedorenko empire.” He has a professional, businesslike approach to business; he knows how to improve and make production successful, without overlooking a single detail. His enterprise serves as a practical training ground for students. I wish them continued growth and development,

-          the university Rector congratulated.

It should be noted that in early September, at a gala meeting dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the Zilber Medical Institute the presentation of honorary doctor robes of PetrSU was held to Vadim Vitalyevich Tyrenko, Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Head of the Department of Faculty Therapy at the S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy, Chief Cardiologist of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Chief Pulmonologist-Internist of the St. Petersburg Health Committee, and Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, and Tamazi Darchovich Karapetyan, Chief Physician of the V.A.
