Constructive Dialogue on Increasing Labor Productivity
On April 23, an extended meeting of the Regional Council of the Karelian Branch of the Russian Engineering Union was held at Petrozavodsk State University.
The Karelian Engineering Union brought together industrialists to discuss the most important topics.
The main topic discussed at the meeting was "System for Improving Industrial Efficiency." The meeting brought together representatives from industrial enterprises, government agencies, development institutions, and universities.
R.M. Abbasov, First Deputy General Director of JSC AEM-Technologies, noted:
“Improving industrial efficiency is a key focus of the joint work of government, business, and development institutions. Special thanks to Anatoly Viktorovich Voronin, Rector of Petrozavodsk State University, and the university team for their hospitality and hosting the event. We value our stable partnership and the opportunity to host industry events using the university's infrastructure.
The topic "System for Improving Industrial Efficiency" was chosen deliberately. Given the ongoing shortage of skilled labor, industrial enterprises face the challenge of increasing labor productivity with their existing resources.
Igor Kotov, Curator of the Karelian Branch, Member of the Central Office Bureau of the Union of Mechanical Engineers of Russia, and Head of the Mechanical Engineering Division of the Rosatom State Corporation:
“The topic of the meeting is extremely relevant. Continuous improvement of operations, digitalization, and the use of artificial intelligence and big data are essential tools for overcoming the barriers facing the domestic industrial complex. Given the labor shortage, increasing labor productivity remains the only path to growth.
First Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Republic of Karelia Alexander Lomako presented the results and plans for the implementation of the federal project "Labor Productivity" in the republic, which is part of the national project "Efficient and Competitive Economy."
The results of several projects aimed at increasing labor productivity, implemented under the guidance of experts from the Federal Competence Center (FCC), were summarized.
S. E. Astakhova, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Karelia, noted:
“The location was chosen symbolically – it is here that future engineering talent for our industry is being forged, and cutting-edge projects are being launched.
A.S. Shtykov, Head of the Innovation and Production Department at PetrSU, delivered a report entitled "Cooperation with the Mechanical Engineering Division in the Field of AI-Based Mechanical Engineering" and presented the university's scientific developments for solving production problems, including collaboration with the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center on developing advanced microelectronics solutions.
The meeting resulted in the signing of agreements with:
- The Ministry of Economic Development of the Republic of Karelia;
- The Industrial Development Fund of the Republic of Karelia;
- The All-Russian Public Organization "Young Guard of United Russia."
These agreements create the basis for developing dialogue between business, government, and public organizations, and for coordinating efforts to implement joint initiatives to increase labor productivity at enterprises in the republic's real sector of the economy.
A.V. Voronin, Rector of Petrozavodsk State University:
“Colleagues, thank you all for participating in such a constructive dialogue. I am confident that the best practices presented today will be applied and replicated across enterprises in the republic. We plan to hold Kurchatov Institute Days in May and Rosatom Day in June. We will continue to work to strengthen Karelia's industrial potential and develop a talent pool. Today, we saw how the integration of science, project-based approaches and lean manufacturing produces measurable economic benefits.
