L.A. Verbitskaya Scholarship for International Students and Postgraduate Students of Russian Universities
International undergraduate and graduate students at Russian universities with significant achievements in Russian language and literature will be eligible to receive scholarships named after the distinguished philologist Lyudmila Verbitskaya.
The decision was made on the instructions of the President.
Starting September 1, 2026, payments will be made monthly to 10 full-time undergraduate (cadet) students and 10 graduate (adjunct) students.
The scholarship will be awarded for 12 months, and recipients will be selected through a competitive process. They must be nominated by the academic councils of educational institutions. Applicants must have no outstanding academic records or have achieved satisfactory or lower grades in their assessments.
Additionally, publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, participation in scientific conferences, international or national awards, and receipt of a research grant will be taken into account.
This decision will support young professionals who will go on to teach Russian language and literature abroad.
Lyudmila Alekseyevna Verbitskaya (1936–2019) was a Soviet and Russian linguist specializing in Russian studies and a Doctor of Philology. She was one of the initiators of the creation of the Presidential Council on the Russian Language, which was later transformed into the Council for the Implementation of State Policy in Support of the Russian Language and Languages of the Peoples of Russia.
