Professor from Southern Africa Meets Students of Two Universities
On February 13, students and faculty from the School of Intercultural Communications at Belarusian State University of Foreign Languages (BSUFL) and the Institute of Foreign Languages at PetrSU met with Professor Karen Ferreira-Meyers from the University of Eswatini.
The speaker delivered an online lecture about the importance of feedback in foreign language teaching, as well as the potential of using artificial intelligence to generate it.
"It was a very informative lecture, with a beautifully illustrated presentation and interesting, creative quizzes. The speaker's delivery was exceptionally clear and well-structured, with practical examples that are easy to incorporate into teaching practice. We are grateful for the opportunity to participate in such a valuable event!" - Oksana Kurilovich, lecturer at the Department of Modern Translation Technologies, School of Intercultural Communications (Belarus).
Students from BSUFL greatly praised the relevance of the topic and found the introduction to the concept of "feedback literacy" particularly beneficial. The students noted that they learned to view feedback as a tool for personal development and gained valuable insights into the potential of AI-generated feedback.
Kristina Loginova, a fourth-year student from Petrozavodsk University, Institute of Foreign Languages, appreciated how the speaker distinguished between genuine feedback and generic, "empty" phrases. She was particularly struck by the speaker's positive and engaging attitude and expressed her gratitude for the informative meeting.
The event was organised by: the Student Scientific Society of the Institute of Foreign Languages, PertSU (Assoc. Prof. Sabina Rudolfovna Nedbailik); the Department of Modern Translation Technologies, School of Intercultural Communications, BSUFL (Assoc. Prof. Olga Viktorovna Zheleznyakova); Center for Applied Linguistic Studies, PertSU (senior lecturer Valeriia Arkadevna Dmitrieva).
