Petrozavodsk hosted the International Student Go Festival, organized with the support of Petrozavodsk State University.

The Go Game Club is one of the oldest clubs at PetrSU. Since 1978 it unites professional and amateur players of go, one of the most popular logical board games.

The Go Club is headed by Aleksey Lazarev, multiple Russia and Europe champion, President of the Go Federation of the Republic of Karelia, Vice-President of Russian Go Federation.

This year go enthusiasts will compete in three Russian tournaments: Russian Student Team Go Championship, Russian Open Student Go Championship, and Russian Go Contest for the Cup of Karelia.

Among the contestants are the teams from Petrozavodsk State University, Moscow State University, Saint Petersburg State University, Saint-Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, North-Eastern Federal University (Yakutsk).

The contest is organized by the Go Federation of the Republic of Karelia in the framework of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Republic and financed by the grant of the President of the Russian Federation for the development of civil society provided by the Presidential Grants Foundation.
