Entrepreneurship Development within Border Areas

Kostomuksha Business Center hosted an information session for entrepreneurs and City Administration representatives within the framework of the CBC project "Social cross-border entrepreneurship: Startup for everyone, opportunities for everyone" (“SOCCER” / KA 8002).

A number of meetings were held during the event. Natalia Bagrova, the Head of the Innovation Center in the Social Sphere within Development Corporation of the Republic of Karelia presented some real cases of social projects successfully implemented in the Republic of Karelia. The participants were given the opportunity to ask their questions on the forms of support for the successful implementation of social business ideas. Also, they had a chance to assess the compliance of their business projects with the criteria for the social enterprise status in accordance with Russian legislation regulating this field of activity.

The experts introduced the audience to the key trends of social entrepreneurship in the global development. During the subsequent training, entrepreneurs supported by the expert group built path dependency scheme for their own social projects development, taking into account global modern trends.

Entrepreneurs made up a number of socially significant business ideas, highly assessed by experts as potentially promising investment projects aimed at developing the territory of the Kostomuksha region as a single-industry town. In this regard, the specialists of PetrSU, being the main event organizers, invited the concerned parties to join "The Art of Presentation of Investment Projects" training within the CBC Program "Cross-border Investment Navigator for Monocities" (CINNAMON  / КА 4032).

A presentation of the Russian National Contest "Social Project of the Year - 2021" became an important part of the event. The participants got acquainted with the main nominations and the selecting criteria. A big advantage of this contest was the participation possibility not only for social entrepreneurs, but also for NGOs, as well as for self-employed citizens. The audience was genuinely interested in the proposed nominations of the contest, supplementary support measures for its participants and winners.

Marina Utitsyna, Russia’a project coordinator and the Head of PetrSU Distance Education Center, took a role of meeting moderator.

Summing up the meeting results, entrepreneurs and participants showed a great interest in conducting another speed meeting with the expert group and business trainers for a detailed study of their business cases before project period ends.
