The 78th International Scientific Conference of Students and Young Scientists Has Begun

24 March 2026
From March 23 to April 26, Petrozavodsk State University will host the 78th International Scientific Conference of Students and Young Scientists.

I.M. Suvorova, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at PetrSU, spoke at the opening ceremony:

“The conference is taking place at a time of intense attention to science, a priority area of national development. As Russian physicist S.I. Vavilov once said, "When science reaches a peak, it opens up a vast prospect for further progress to new heights, revealing new paths for science to follow." I wish you to become infected with this "science virus" and remember that science gives meaning to human life. May prospects unfold before you that will inspire you to follow the path called "science" throughout your life! Good luck!

"800 Years of the Christianization of the Karelians," "The Dynamics of Northern Bogs as a Marker of Climate Change in the Arctic," and "Gravity and Weightlessness as a Problem in Physiology and Medicine"—these and other topics were discussed on the main stage of PetrSU on the opening day of the scientific conference. Numerous sections, exhibitions, roundtables, hackathons, master classes, and more await.

The conference will feature 144 events, including 129 sections (17 in Stage II) and 28 other events.

1,134 papers from 1,108 authors, supervised by 421 scientific advisors, have been registered. The conference's geography covers districts of the Republic of Karelia, various regions of the Russian Federation (19 regions of the Russian Federation, including new regions, such as the Zaporozhskaya Oblast), and foreign countries (Serbia and Belarus).

“This year is unique: the conference has gained international status due to the inclusion of prominent scientists from India, Belarus, and Serbia on the organizing committee. Furthermore, for the first time in a very long time, the event will be held in two stages: the winners of the Stage I sections, with two papers from each section, will be invited to participate in the Stage II sections. The conference opening ceremony will take place on March 24 at 11:30 a.m. in the university Assembly Hall. It will feature plenary presentations by leading PetrSU scientists on the university's priority development areas, student performances, and a book exhibition dedicated to the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. For the first time since 2016, a university-wide awards ceremony will be held to award the winners with diplomas and, starting this year, valuable prizes – the organizers explained.

The staff of the PetrSU Scientific Library prepared a thematic book exhibition.

The scientific conference for students and young scientists has been held at Petrozavodsk State University annually since 1948.
