Round Table on Digitalization in English

Within the 74th All-Russian (with international participation) Scientific Conference of Students and Young Researchers, there was a round table in English on the problems of digitalization of modern society.

Within the 74th All-Russian (with international participation) Scientific Conference of Students and Young Researchers, there was a round table in English on the problems of digitalization of modern society.

The discussion English club "Debaters Today, Leaders Tomorrow" of PetrSU Students' Research Society in cooperation with the Department of World History, Political Science and International Relations of the Institute of History, Political and Social Sciences of PetrSU held an international round table "The phenomenon of the "welfare state": the experience of implementing social policy in the Russian Federation and the Federal Republic of Germany. Digitalization and social security".

The program consisted of 2 parts: a plenary session with reports and the case study of the modern digital technologies usage in Russia in various spheres of life.

The plenary part included students' reports on certain aspects of digitalization, which had developed in fruitful discussion. The round table participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the review of methodological approaches to the impact of digitalization on the welfare state. The topic was presented by Dr. Rolf Frankenberger (Institute of Political Science of the University of Tübingen, Germany), a committed partner and leader of a set of implemented joint projects in the field of local self-government research and the welfare state.

The reports of PetrSU students included: the strategy of developing an informational society in Russia and its description in academic literature (Egor Yurusov, 1st year student of the International Relations department), strategic policy making in digitalisation (Ekaterina Nikulina, 3rd year student of the International Relations department), information technologies in the implementation of cross-border cooperation practices on the example of the Republic of Karelia (Anastasia Khodchenkova, 3rd year student of the International Relations department). These reports were prepared under the scientific guidance of Elena Chernenkova, the Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of World History, Political Science and International Relations.

Discussion was significantly revived by foreign students of the Club: Anas Alkatuaa and Ramadan Mohammad (5th year students of the Institute of Medicine of PetrSU). Bernardo Menescal, Brazilian participant of the round table, presented the results of his research on the organization and perception of distance learning in educational institutions in Brazil during the pandemic.

The round table was also attended by graduates of International Relations, regular participants in the events of the Discussion Club: Ekaterina Shestakova, PR specialist of the Petrozavodsk Administration, who described the experience of using digital technologies by municipal cultural institutions of Petrozavodsk. Maria Pimenova, the Head of the Protocol Division of the Academic Mobility Department of PetrSU, addressed the issue of data security in the context of digital infrastructure development.

The winners are:

  • The 1st place: Anastasia Khodchenkova.
  • The 2nd place: Ekaterina Nikulina and Egor Yurusov.
  • The 3rd place: Anas Alkatuaa and Ramadan Mohammad.

The event was also organized by:

  • On behalf of the Discussion Club - Lila Yusupova, a senior lecturer, and Tatiana Tatarina, Associate Professor, both from the Department of Foreign Languages for Humanities;
  • On behalf of the Institute of History, Political and Social Sciences - Elena Chernenkova, Associate Professor of the Department of World History, Political Science and International Relations.

Anton Malyshko, a specialist of the Department of Academic Training (Doctoral studies, postgraduate studies, postgraduate candidate studies), played a major role in the preparation and holding of the event as a section administrator.

Natalia Lavrushina, the chairperson of the Karelian Public Diplomacy Development Foundation, also took part in the discussion, the round table, in the preparatory and final events.
