Nikita Esin, 3rd year student of the Department of Russian History of the Institute of History, Political and Social Sciences of PetrSU, took part in the International Forum of Young Scientists in Arkhangelsk.
The International Forum of Young Scientists "Russia in the Arctic Dialogue: Global and Local Contexts" was held on the basis of the Northern Arctic Federal University.
This large-scale event brought together about 100 people from more than 20 countries in order to discuss and search for solutions to the most pressing issues of development and exploration of the Arctic region.
The event was held in the format of several parallel thematic platforms, discussion sessions and cultural events. Russian and international students of undergraduate and graduate levels studying at 23 Russian universities attended the Forum.
The Arctic Dialogue brought together young scientists from 12 countries: Russia, Cameroon, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Jordan, China, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Algeria, Ghana, Kazakhstan, Mexico. Petrozavodsk State University and the Republic of Karelia were represented at the forum by Nikita Esin, a 3rd year student of the Department of Russian History. Together with the "Keepers of the North" team, Nikita worked on the "Arctic Around You" project, which was aimed at preserving and popularizing the cultural heritage of the peoples of the Arctic.
Nikita Esin:
These three days of the scientific forum will remain in my memory forever. We had lectures on the problems and prospects of the Arctic delivered by real professionals and scientists who work in the Arctic zone not only in Russia, but also world-wide. I’m very grateful to the Forum organizers, who gave me the opportunity to experience the real North with its features and peculiarities. I’m sure that all the projects developed by the teams, including mine, will come true and one day become a solution to many challenges in the Arctic region.
I would also like to note the importance of international contact during these difficult times. The Forum was attended not only by Russian students, but also by the students from all around the world. I tried to communicate with everyone and discuss the most important problems of both the Arctic region and the world itself, and I consider these meetings the most important, because we will try to maintain contact and help each other in solving certain problems.
Student project initiatives were highly appreciated by the Jury Panel that included representatives of the authorities, NGOs, research- and educational organizations. As a consequence, these projects were recommended for future implementation.
