Day of Languages of the Peoples of Russia

PetrSU held a research seminar to mark the Day of Languages of the Peoples of Russia.

This year, on September 8, Russia celebrated the Day of Languages ​​of the Peoples of Russia for the first time. This date coincided with the birthday of Rasul Gamzatov, a Soviet poet, novelist, publicist, public and political figure, and translator. The holiday was established by decree of the President of the Russian Federation with the aim of preserving and supporting the languages ​​of the peoples of Russia, as well as strengthening interethnic unity and respect for the country's cultural heritage.

The seminar, organized by the Department of Russian Language and the Department of Baltic-Finnish Philology, took place at PetrSU. Natalia Viktorovna Patroeva, Head of the Department of Russian Language, and Tatyana Vladimirovna Pashkova, Head of the Department of Baltic-Finnish Philology, delivered welcoming remarks.

The event was organized as part of the grant competition for faculty members of the Vladimir Potanin Scholarship Program.

Mikhail Alekseevich Assessorov, Chairman of the public organization "Mari of Karelia," presented a paper on Mari mythology.

Oleg Viktorovich Nikitin, Professor of the Russian Language Department at Petrozavodsk State University, Doctor of Philology, and Professor of the Department of Slavic Studies, General Linguistics and Communication Culture at the State University of Education (Moscow), spoke to seminar participants about the life and work of S.I. Ozhegov in the context of the lexicographic battles of the 20th century.

Svetlana Ivanovna Dobrova, Head of the Department of Theory, History, and Methods of Teaching Russian Language and Literature at Voronezh State Pedagogical University, presented a paper entitled "The Fundamentals of the Theory of Parallelism Development in Russian Folklore Genres."

Students from the Department of Baltic-Finnish Philology and the Department of Russian Language of the Institute of Philology participated in the seminar.

The participants expressed their hope that such meetings on the Day of Languages ​​of the Peoples of Russia would become annual.
