The Festival opened with a press conference in the Youth Innopark of PetrSU.

The program of the BEFF 2019 includes screenings, discussions, workshops, seminars, lectures, tree planting, contests, and exhibitions. The festival holds premiere screenings of films.

Barents Ecology Film Festival is held in two countries at the same time: Russia and Finland, and two cities: Petrozavodsk and Joensuu. This event brings together ecologists and directors, who make films on the environment and offer their solutions and vision.

The festival is held annually since 2011. Each year around 2000 directors from all over the world, including Asia, Latin America, the Nordic countries and Russia, submit their applications. This year the festival features works by directors from Mexico, Germany, Finland, Spain, Croatia, the USA, Russia, and other countries. The international competitive program includes 30 films: feature films, documentary, and animation, short features, films for children.

Aleksey Rogozin, the Head of the Division of International Projects:

“This event is significant as lately, we see increasing concern for ecology. We receive many proposals from foreign partners. Currently the university implements around 7 large international projects, part of which concern solving ecological issues of the city. We all know that cinema has a special impact on people’s minds and can be a great motivator. So we are happy to take part in the organization of the festival.”

“We thank Petrozavodsk State University for the help and support in the organization of the festival.  The main feature of the festival, just as in previous years, is the premiere screening of films that will not be available for viewing neither in cinema theaters nor on the Internet.”

In Petrozavodsk, the screening and events of Barents Ecology Festival took place on several venues: cinema theaters, Resource Media Center of Karelians, Veps, Finns; AgriCulture_club, Petrozavodsk State University, etc. On September 27 Joensuu joined the event and hosted international pitching event. The pitching accepted projects that were developed by representatives of different countries.
