International Students at the Meeting with the Migration Service of the Republic of Karelia
This year among Petrozavodsk State University, Flagship University of Karelia welcomed first-year students from the countries of Europe, Latin America, the CIS countries, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. The students came here to become teachers, doctors, constructors, pharmacists, economists, specialists in linguistics and tourism. Every year PetrSU arranges a meeting between fresh students and representatives of the Directorate for Migration Affairs (DMA) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Republic of Karelia.
These meetings are held several times a year and concern the issues of labor, visa and migration legislation of Russia.
The expert of the license and visa division of the DMA Galina Shimko told the students about issuing invitations to the Russian Federation and study visas, reminded of the necessity to keep track of the validity of visa and passport and apply for elongation in a timely manner. The students were also warned about the consequences of administrative violations, namely penalties and ban from entering Russia.
The expert of the external labor migration division of the Department of Immigration Control Olga Nikiforova talked about the potential employment of international students in the Republic of Karelia and distributed guidelines with a list of documents required for working in the Russian Federation.
Anna Nefedova, the senior inspector of the Department of Immigration Control highlighted the importance of abidance by the rules of stay in Russia and timely registration at the place of residence.
The meeting also covered issues of countering terrorist and extremist ideologies.
“I would like to thank the employees of the Directorate for Migration Affairs for this meeting as the information they provided is essential for the students in view of their studying at PetrSU and residing in Petrozavodsk,” said the Head of the Registration and Visa Department Ilya Popov.
