Foresight Session “Ecotourism ReBoot”
The foresight session “Ecotourism ReBoot” convened Russian and foreign experts in the sustainable development of natural areas and was organized by the Government of the Republic of Karelia and the Agency for Strategic Initiatives.
The highlights of the session were the reports by the speakers who talked about ecology and its direct impact on tourism. Daisy Silvennoinen from Finland explained how the government, companies, and communities work together in order to introduce changes that will facilitate the development and preservation of nature in Finland. Her colleague Hanna Koivula talked about the eco-efficiency of accommodation enterprises in Finland and Russia. She noted that ecotourism needs good infrastructure and public investments to enable waste treatment.
“I think it is important for companies to get together, share ideas and set objectives for themselves and others. I believe that publicity is essential. Companies get together and see what others are doing. And they know that it is possible, they can share ideas and be helpful to each other and cooperate.”
Delegation of the Department of Tourism included the Director of the Institute of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism Valentina Kirilina, teachers Viktoria Plotnikova, Vladimir Shevchenko, Valentina Maksimova, Nina Huuskonen, Anna Belan, Olga Starchenko, as well as students. The participants learned new information for further development of ecotourism in the Republic of Karelia.
