Skype Conference on Cognitive Linguistics
The Institute of Foreign Languages of PetrSU held an online international research Skype conference on cognitive linguistics featuring Ines Lozano Palacio, Spanish researcher and lecturer of the University of La Rioja.
The event, organized jointly by the teachers of the Department of the German and French Languages and the Department of the English Language of the IFL, convened around 60 students, postgraduates, Master students, and scientists from Russia and abroad: Ireland, the USA, Japan, and other countries. The conference included several plenary lectures on the current issues of cognitive linguistics. In particular, the lecturer covered such unorthodox interdisciplinary topics as
- Social and historical context in the cognitive study of irony
- Irony and cognitive modeling: a scenario-based approach to irony
- Irony in literature: a study of the evolution of irony in cognitive linguistics
- Lexical construction models and cognitive operations of irony.
All lectures were accompanied by topical presentations and original illustrations. The audience engaged in a discussion.
The participants of the meeting expressed their gratitude to Ines Lozano Palacio for her interest in Petrozavodsk University, initiative, and willingness to develop fruitful scientific cooperation.
