Centre for Applied Linguistic Studies of the Institute of Foreign languages hosted the online meeting with the participation of Elisa Passer. Students of the Linguistics program (Translation and Interpreting Studies) joined the meeting.
Svetlana Guseva, the Head of the academic program «Linguistics. Translation and Interpreting Studies», arranged the meeting. She acquainted the students with Elisa Passer who obtained a Master’s degree from the University of Urbino Carlo Bo (Italy). During a semester in 2018, Elisa studied at Petrozavodsk State University as an exchange student. She studied the Russian language at the Institute of Philology and the English language at the Institute of Foreign Languages.
Her success at the competition of translations of prose brought her many job proposals and since then she has worked as a translator. Nowadays Elisa Passer translates fiction from English into Italian.
During the meeting, Elisa Passer advised students on how to work with a text, what tools should be applied to portray literary characters and reproduce the historic atmosphere, how to arrange the schedule, and also answered the students’ questions.
«It was an insightful meeting, as the students need to find their niche as translators soon», said Nadezhda Shablikova, the Associate Professor at the Department of the English Language.
