The idea to help international students adapt to life in Karelia by engaging them in volunteer work belongs to the participants of the SLOVO International Agency.

In winter 2020, they presented the idea as a project initiative at the Conveyor of Volunteer Initiatives contest, which was held by the Resource Center for the Promotion of Volunteerism in Karelia. The idea earned support, and the volunteers set an agenda for action.

"Volunteering has proven to be an effective tool for bringing people together", said Anna Soboleva, the Head of the SLOVO International Agency of PetrSU.

According to Anna, they could not accomplish everything they had planned at the beginning of 2020 due to the coronavirus epidemic:

"Our students wanted to try their hand at helping the organizers of major sports and cultural activities. Meanwhile, we did have several internships. For example, for the first time students from Jordan chopped wood to heat the animal shelter".
