Kick-off Meeting on International Project SMARTI (Erasmus+)
Kazan Federal University hosted a kick-off meeting on international project SMARTI implemented with financial support from the EU program Erasmus+.
Kasan Federal University convened the representatives of the Russian project consortium, which includes Ogarev Mordovia State University, Petrozavodsk State University, Kasan Federal University, Irkutsk National Research Technical University, Certification Association Russian Register. Partners of the project coming from Europe (Great Britain, Germany, Latvia, Portugal) and Armenia joined the meeting online.
A team from PetrSU consisted of employees of the Department of International Projects and Programs: Head of the Department Galina Parikhina and manager of the EU Information Center Aleksei Kupriakhin.
On the first day of the meeting, PetrSU representatives delivered a report on the university, the project team and responsibilities of each of its member.
Discussions around work packages, organizational matters and documents took place for the next two days, followed by the decision on project procedure made by the parties for the near future.
The area of responsibility of PetrSU, the Catholic University of Portugal and the Armenian National Agrarian University will include the first work package entitled "Preparation", which will become the basis for the further development of the project. The main task of the team at this time will be the development and launch of a study on English as a teaching environment at universities in Russia and Armenia, analysis of the European Union best practices in this area. Under the working package, learning materials for independent studies will also be created, which will later serve as the basis for 9 modules in English as a teaching environment. The modules should be integrated into the system of faculty training in the universities of Russia and Armenia.
The purpose of SMARTI activities is wide range of research and other activities carried out to provide sustainable and efficient environment for teaching in English in higher education (technical specialties). The project involves the development of methodology and practical tools, as well as direct training of faculty on how to work in English as a teaching environment. One of the key expected project outcomes will be an appropriate preparatory center at the university, whose area of responsibility will include activities related to additional professional training of faculty, consulting, methodological and linguistic support for teachers offering education in English.
The project will be piloted at PetrSU on the Master's program "Smart Internet Technology" in the field of applied mathematics and computer science. SMARTI will directly contribute to the federal programs implementation on the internationalization and export of Russian education, allowing Russian universities in the future to independently enter the international educational market with a quality product that meets international standards.
